About

Set in contemporary China, Peach Tree in the Sea follows the journey of a working-class family whose lives are irrevocably altered by the nation’s sweeping social and economic upheavals. Spanning two generations and four tumultuous decades—from the Cultural Revolution to the era of economic reforms—the novel explores the profound impacts of these changes on individual lives. At its heart, it is a migration story, tracing the journeys of two sisters as they leave their inland city, Luoyang, and move to the coastal boomtown of Shenzhen, where they must make difficult decisions as they strive to build new lives for themselves in a rapidly evolving society.
